Spain's culture

Spain has a long and complex history and has created a multicultural landscape of unique artistic and cultural spaces. The country bridges the African and European continents, the Iberian Peninsula has been a crossing point for three great traditions – Jewish, and Muslim and Christian Granada, dominated by the Sierra Nevadas and the imposing Moorish palace of the Alhambra, and shows the way in which these cultures have connected and clashed. The development of the city over the centuries includes a heritage, which is both strong artistically and culturally. Music, dance, architecture, crafts, and other things help us to comprehend the development and wealth of current day Spain. The contrasts that emerge as tradition finds modern-day life.

The Spanish way of life has changed quite a lot over the last couple of years and many of the tied-up religious ways of seeing things are giving way to more modern ways of looking at life. Even so, lots of old customs and traditions have not disappeared completely. Shaking hands is the normal way of greeting and kissing each other on both cheeks is normal. If you are invited to a private home, it is appreciated to take along a small gift. Flowers are usually sent / taken along for special occasions. Smoking is widely accepted, even in banks and shops but not on public transport.

Spanish way of life can be considered to be going at a slower pace than the rest of Europe, especially in the south. This might seem as lazy, but when Spanish people work, they are hard workers. It is quite normal for life to begin when the sun goes down and this is very much true in the summer months.

Parks in Spain

Spain can be rugged, high, and dry. Or flat, low, and wet. Or anything in the middle.
It has a varied terrain, it has more wild and beautiful places than any other country in Europe.

A total of 1,226 square kms. of the 500,000 that make up Spain have been set aside as National Parks. The Spanish Pyrenees holds some of the best wildlife habitats in Europe, with alpine wildlife merging with Mediterranean to provide a wealth of interest and activity. You should also go and see the green mountains along the north Atlantic coast, In the Picos de Europa, the National Park of La Montaqa de Covadonga, and all the way in the south of the country, Doqana, which is a stunning, but very fragile, bird sanctuary.

Other places of interests in Spain

Spain has in total seven unique national parks:
Tablas de Daimiel. Called"wet La Mancha," which represents an interior wetlands in which more than 200 species of birds can be observed.

Aig|es Tortes and Lago de Sant Maurici. Means "twisted waters." Rugged Pyrenean highlands.
Caqadas del Teide. These are volcanic highlands with amazing landscapes and flora.

Timanfaya. These are recent volcanic landscapes.

Caldera de Taburiente
Garajonay. In the Canary Islands, the most important remaining laurisylvan forests.

Marmmo-Terrestre. Spain's newest; the largest non-populated island in the Mediterranean.
